The Jupiter Hotel – Portland, OR

Recently were were lucky enough to take advantage of The Jupiter Hotel’s last minute room for $59 policy. We showed up just before midnight and scored a room at this irresistible price. Luck us and luck you because I have so much to show you. In this post I will start with the hotel
lobby, the outdoor spaces and the hotel room and in future posts I will show you the restaurant and bar. Below you can see the lobby from the outside through the two glass walls coming to a point above the Jupiter Hotel sign, lit in yellow. Inside the lobby the walls are tiled with beveled mirror (actually the same treatment I gave my entryway, I will show you that in a future post).

The outdoor spaces are very happening on a Friday night. The exterior of the hotel is lit in blue and the bar space has a red and yellow glow. The original building is a very simple geometric motel from the 1960′s but the new additions to the building are an eclectic mix of this modern metal awning and the log cabin exterior of the bar. Take a look at the window placement in the very first picture. It is low and long like the booth seating on the inside of it with a four sided fireplace right in the center.

Each room has a door painted with chalkboard paint (a cute project you could easily do at home). The doors make for interesting billboards as people return from the bar and retire to their rooms for the night…. :)  Below is the hotel room. They are simple but stylish. The left wall and a portion of the right wall are painted yellow with a tree pattern. The pattern was created by simply applying tape to the wall in the shape of a tree and then painting over it with the yellow paint and removing the tape. Super easy. The floor was finished with multi color carpet tiles which can be purchased at Flor.com.

Thanks Lauren :) My husband and I love hotels too. We take advantage of a lot of Groupon, Travelzoo, and other internet deals. My husband is great at deal hunting. I keep telling him that he should start his own blog called “Ballin’ on a Budget”.
